The latest on Rampgate…

is that the pub recognised their oversight in removing ramp access to their garden, and acknowledge that a long-term solution needs to be put in place… but have also agreed to borrow our 2.4 metre portable ramp to solve the problem for the rest of the summer!

So we should be enjoying a couple of ice cold beers in the sunshine there this weekend! 🍻

A total triumph, I think you’ll agree!

Well done everyone who submitted their lovely ‘query’ about this to the pub. They did reference, that our friends had been in touch. 👏 👏 👏

Mini update on this…

… the pub acknowledge their oversight and are looking at getting a temporary ramp to go over the steps until winter.

I have sent them pics of a spare one that we have that could be suitable. 🤞

Let’s hope they go for it, and we’ll be back in business, sipping on beers in the sunshine! 😎☀️🍺

A BIG thank you to everyone who sent a note in, they did say ‘your friends’ had been in touch! 👏👏👏

Does it need a ramp or totally new access would the ramp make the steps too steep for a wheel chair? Just wondering!!!!

I presume they have deemed the old sloping path 'technically too steep', it wasn't ideal, but it was very doable in a powerchair, which requires the shallowest incline, I'm sure a manual wheelchair would have whizzed up and down the old one nicely.

There is a big stretch of grass that adjoins the carpark, and a shallower incline on the other side, I have suggested to them that they might like to put one there, or maybe just unscrew a couple of the fence rails, so we can pop through. 😉

I'm still awaiting a reply from my letter, so I don't know what the official reasoning is behind it yet. The staff didn't really seem to know.

Watch this space... 🤞

I have asked about wheel chair access on the comment form …. Can you get into the garden from the pub ? I presume not easily from your post …

Kate Darracott's avatar

Thank you so so much!

No, the access to the garden from the pub, is up a very steep (about 5) set of steps, so that’s a no go too.

It’s amazing how many people have chimed in, we’re so touched, and am optimistic they will put it right. 🤞🤞🤞

How many drunk people will be falling down the steps also !!!!! They will probably regret putting those in !!!!!!!

The drunk people will be falling up the steps on exit, but you make an excellent point, and I will immediately escalate it to management. 👍🤓

Now that's "ramping things up" in a positive way! I like that you both consider going to the pub as rehab. It's so very British of you.

How many main meal stamps does it take to earn a free bottle of Veuve Clicquot as part of their loyalty scheme? What if your fellow patrons donated the cost of their Yellow Label Brut for this "step" in a better direction?

Kate Darracott's avatar

Socialising is absolutely rehab! 🥂

It’s only 12 main meal stamps for a bottle of VC, which is very good value, especially as they also give a bottle of Moet after only 8! I don’t know how these champagne houses are squeaking by! 😉😂

We are in talks with the manager re providing them a ramp… he needs to clear it with his boss… watch this space! 🤞🤞🤞

Of course I will watch this space. And, I will be on the lookout for more serious loyalty programs like yours. We do have a "loyalty" paint card at our local hardware store. After buying 10 gallons of paint, we get a free one. I like the idea of gallons of champagne better!

Kate Darracott's avatar

That is a lot of paint! 😳 I’ll stick with the champagne. 👍

Polite message sent, I've asked for a response so will let you know if I get anything.

Amazing! Thank you Sandra! 👏👏👏

I'm spitting feathers! I will be writing to them but the steam coming out of my ears has disabled the running of my "polite" app and running the 'tear them a new one' app instead. ...... fuming xx

Thank you! I’m sure you will find the right phraseology when it counts. 😘
