Brilliant! I am personally not always awesome in forced social situations with strangers and this “fix” is perfect. Let’s me slide into (and out of) the conversation stream with little awkwardness.

Give it a go, it really helps everyone enjoy the evening better I think. 😃

It really is the perfect solution!

Ps: I hope you have not been drawn into doing the cricket teas? If you have, you have my deepest of sympathy. 🤭

Be strong. Unless you bake a world class Victoria Sponge, in which ‘go for it’!

I worked for a women-only adventure travel company---it was both amazing and agonizing. The perk was that my wife could join me on trips. The non-perk was the woman on the Indonesia adventure whose main goal was to disrupt our premeditated seating plan (which was Kim and I next to each other or across from each other as a group travel survival plan). It was a daily game of weird tic tac toe with this woman. Further, instead of heading to Bali early in the morning, this same woman wanted to stay for the late yoga class at our retreat which would leave us stuck in traffic for the precious afternoon. "It's my birthday so everyone gets to do what I want to do," she said. (She was 60, not 6 and probably now sitting alone somewhere.)

That is a tricky situation when in a group for several days.

I was thinking of hosting some retreats, but it’s a good point that as the host, I may well always end up with the people no body else wants to talk to every evening! 😂

Or, worse, nobody wants to talk to you. Ha. That's doubtful, Kate! The rare times I'm about to step on an elevator I size everyone up---could I handle being stuck with them for several hours? Who would I find an alliance with? Who would I make out with? Who could break us the hell out of there like they do in the movies? You know, those sorts of normal questions.

You must spend a lot of time in lobbies!!! 😂

I don't! I live way out in the country, there's not an elevator to be had. Maybe a grain elevator, but that's it!
