Lesson learned. Do not watch The Hollars in public, especially on a plane where you have to step over somebody while tears are streaming down to your collarbones...and then patiently wait for the washroom to become available. Margo Martindale can do no wrong in my mind and her performance in this was so powerful. John Krasinski directed this one (and stars in it)--and it's studded with the likes of Richard Jenkins. Years later I still feel like I've swallowed a croissant sideways thinking about this film. And then add in the Closer to Fine part. Torture. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDm-hMnvB44
Hey Kate. I think those air stewards are sobbing in the back for their own reasons. Tough job in tight quarters with high octane emotions all around! On this same topic---DO NOT read The Art of Racing in the Rain in the sky either. Some things should be done in the privacy of your own home.
I had definitely heard about this phenomenon! But I can’t think of when I experienced it on a plane. However, I did get quite moved by reading The Road Less Travelled on a train once. I can’t blame a lack of oxygen for affecting me so maybe it’s more to do with the sensation of travelling? 😉 As I finished the book I was sitting next to an evangelist who clearly saw the book’s name and my uplifted spiritual state and asked if I wanted to go to church with them 😂

Thank you for sharing!
It seems like I'm not the only one who's had a tearful transatlantic crossing!
No wonder the air stewards just ignore the relentless sobbing, they must see it all the time! 😂

Do you think we will ever get to the stage when sniffer dogs are searching our hand luggage for sentimental books? 😂😂😂
Sounds like a job designed for basset hounds!
Even worse - because I was feeling so fluffy I said yes!!! 😱 (obviously when I came to my senses a few hours later I then politely declined)
Wow, the power of that book!
I must read it, although I am slightly scared of it now. 😮

Hee hee, that's hilareous! 😂
