Eureka!
I was reading an
post ‘Your niche will choose you’ earlier today, and it struck me like a thunderbolt, that maybe I’m the one who’s supposed to invent the Pre-Review!The reason being is that I am already desperate to discuss the next BIG TV Series with you, and I’ve only seen the first episode!
The Series is The Gentlemen on Netflix, Guy Ritchie’s latest creation, and it has all the ingredients of an absolute belter!
If you haven’t seen the excellent film1 of the same name, what have you been doing with your life?
Panic not, the Series is set in the same world as the film, but the characters are all different, and so no prior knowledge is required.
Half the cast, when interviewed, claim not to have seen it either, although they did all claim to be mates of Guy Ritchie, so make of that what you will.
I would usually suggest you run off and watch it now, but just hold on a sec, treat it as pudding for when you finish the Series and realise there is a gaping hole in your life.
The Gentlemen – Netflix TV Series
Why do I think this is going to be first rate review fodder?
Theo James
If you loved him in The White Lotus, you’ll love him in this. Initial findings are that he’s not the arsehole this time, so it’s an interesting departure characterwise.Kaya Scodelario
Loved her in the original (and best) Season 1 of Skins TV series. However, it does look like she is trying to topple Selena Gomez’s recent crown for ‘Least Mouth Movement When Speaking in a TV Series’, so I’ll be keeping a close eye on that… which luckily she makes very easy.Daniel Ings
Who’s face is so expressive, you can’t tell if his character has just inhaled a whole bag of coke before each scene, or he’s about to burst into song… if in doubt, assume the former.Joely Richardson
Bringing some genuine class and decorum to proceedings, she is what Rosamund Pike’s character was to Saltburn2, only hopefully less needy.Vinnie Jones
Playing his usual ‘Guy Ritchie’ character, although this time he’s in tweed, which I think is the Peaky Blinders influence on the creative bench.Ray Winstone
Typecast again as an east-end baddy, and it looks like he dove so far into his character this time, he is doing interviews post-filming still wearing sunglasses, so he doesn’t have to look anyone in the eye.Eccentric Aristocrats
Who doesn’t love the eccentricity of the English upper classes living it large from both barrels… generally fired far too close to the Stately Home, or indeed within it.Sharp dialogue… with plenty of creative swearing. I can never tire of hearing posho’s occasionally drop the c*nt word.
Glaringly obvious improbable plot twists that will make me apoplectic with rage! And I’m not just talking about walking through a fish market wearing a pair of Christian Louboutin heels, which I think we can all agree is highly improbable, but not impossible.
However, there is already one ‘NO WAY, that would absolutely 100% never happen!’ thing I spotted in Episode 1 that was simply ludicrous… but I won’t divulge, so it can enrage you too!And here’s the last piece of the jigsaw puzzle that makes me think there will be a lot to discuss… potentially in ALL CAPS, while screaming like a BanSHEE!!!
A Google search has revealed… lots of links entitled ‘The Gentlemen’s Shock Ending – Explained’.
JACKPOT BABY!!!
It’s only been out for a few days and already people are discussing the ‘shock ending’ and needing it explained!
Which, I’m hoping, means it will be infinitely more complicated and carefully considered, than some dozy bint forgetting to look left when pulling out of a junction (in central London) on a bloody bicycle!!! #stillseething
And breathe…
TV Reviews
Having a good old rant or rave about something I’ve seen on the telly is one of my favourite post types to write, but of course there is always the tricky ‘spoiler alert’ issue, which you have to do, as you can’t rant or rave about something without talking specifics and saying exactly why you think it’s fabulous or diabolical!
So this way, with a Pre-Review, you get the heads-up on the subject matter, have plenty of time to catch-up on the viewing and then we can blow off steam in the Comments section next week, while debating furiously over the ‘controversial ending’.
Let’s meet back here next Thursday (21 Mar) to discuss!
I can’t wait!

Let me know if you’re in!
If you’ve seen the film The Gentlemen, perhaps we could discuss how brilliant Hugh Grant was and how misplaced Matthew McConaughey was? 🤓
Would you wear a Burberry check tracksuit out in public?
Thank you for being here, please ❤️ (below) if you enjoyed this piece, it really helps others find it.
The film contains Hugh Grant’s finest ever acting role and Colin Farrell’s finest ever wardrobe, a heady combination.
You guys dodged a bullet on that one, I very nearly reviewed it on here, but couldn’t stomach watching it twice. When I rage, I like to get my facts right.
I. Seriously. Need. To. Watch. This. I lurve Guy Ritchie's movies, and while I never watched The White Lotus, I do remember Theo's HAWTNESS in The Divergent series and his deep voice just about did me (and my panties) in. Once I watch this, I'll be joining the conversation. Probably won't be until I get my own place but know that I will be joining the conversation. At some point. LOL
I think you've sold this show to me now! And YES to rants about TV shows (and books)!
